1 Insight From Me

September 2024. Nine months into crisis. Three months until the end of the year.

Most people would coast into Q4. You've survived this long—just finish the year.

But I did something different. I sat down with the data from nine months and asked: What's working? What do I want to amplify in Q4? What do I need to let go?

I looked at what had succeeded:

Systems: The morning routine, weekly reviews, job search protocol had 90%+ success. These weren't experiments anymore—they were proven. Q4 decision: Lock these in. No adjusting, no second-guessing. Just execute.

Delegation: The meal train, community support, asking for help when I needed it—all working. Q4 decision: Deepen it. Not just receive help, but invest in relationships. Gratitude isn't passive; it's active.

Consistency: 1,000 job applications had led to one job. But the job itself proved the principle. Q4 decision: Apply the same consistency to the new role. Don't coast, don't get comfortable. Keep building.

Energy management: This was my weakest area. I'd been inconsistent about protecting recovery time. Q4 decision: Make this a non-negotiable. Three days per week of true recovery—not guilt, not "should," just protection.

What I decided to release:

The need for external validation. By September, it was clear people believed in me. But I was still seeking constant reassurance. Q4 decision: Let that go. Trust what's been proven.

The myth of "when things get normal." I'd been holding onto the idea that once Florena recovered, once the financial stress decreased, once I settled into the new job—then life would be normal. But normal was already here. Q4 decision: Stop waiting for a different season.

Here's what separates people who survive crisis from people who thrive after it:

Survivors coast into the finish line.

Thrivers use the final quarter to solidify what worked, deepen relationships, and prepare for post-crisis life intentionally.

By late November, I could see the year closing. Not broken, not just surviving, but positioned to enter 2025 differently than I entered 2024.

The Q4 Preparation

This week, audit your year (or current phase) using three questions:

  1. What's working? (What has 80%+ success? Double down on this in Q4.)
  2. What's weakest? (What am I avoiding? Make this non-negotiable in Q4.)
  3. What am I holding onto that doesn't serve me? (What belief, relationship, or habit can I release to make space for what's next?)

Then make ONE specific Q4 decision for each answer.

Don't coast. Prepare intentionally.

Grit, Gratitude, & Grace Newsletter Reader 1 Insight From Me April 2024. The church meal train started. People signed up. A schedule was made. Meals arrived daily—meal that aligned with our plant-based diet. It felt miraculous. By May, I realized: This can't last forever. The people giving meals have their own lives. Their own crises. Their own needs. At some point, the meal train ends. People naturally move on. The community does what it can, then returns to normal. And when it ends, you...

Grit, Gratitude, & Grace Newsletter Reader 1 Insight From Me June 2024. Four months into crisis. I paused and did something I'd never done before: I audited the last 90 days systematically. What worked? What didn't? What changed? What stayed the same? Where was I investing energy that produced nothing? Where was I investing energy that compounded? I looked at the data: Morning routine consistency: 87 out of 90 days (97%) Days where I felt grounded by it: 87 out of 87 Days I skipped it and...

It never came. Systems saved me, not motivation. Willpower. I tried...
