The Sunday reset that keeps your week from running you

1 Insight From Me

Most weeks don't fall apart in one big moment. They drift. A meeting runs long, a commitment slips, a promise you made to yourself quietly disappears by Wednesday. By Friday you're reacting to whatever arrives instead of choosing what matters.

The fix I've come back to is a short Sunday reset. Twenty minutes, same time every week, before the new week starts. I ask three questions:

What went well this week? Name it specifically. Specific wins are easier to repeat than vague ones.

What drained me or slipped? Be honest without being harsh. You're gathering information, not filing a verdict.

What are the three things that matter most next week? Not twelve. Three. Put them on the calendar before anything else gets booked.

The reset works because it turns drift into a decision. You don't have to be disciplined every day. You only have to look once a week and choose again.

II. "Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom." - Psalm 90:12 (NIV)

1 Challenge: The 20-Minute Sunday Reset This Sunday, set a 20-minute timer. Answer the three questions in writing. Then put your top three priorities on your calendar for Monday through Wednesday.

Grit, Gratitude, & Grace Newsletter Reader 1 Insight From Me November arrives and the calendar fills fast: family events, year-end deadlines, favors people expect you to say yes to. Most of us don't decide to overcommit. We drift into it, one "sure, I can do that" at a time. I learned to notice the moment before I answered. Was I saying yes because I wanted to, or because I was afraid of disappointing someone? A simple rule helps: before you commit, ask what you would have to stop doing to...

Grit, Gratitude, & Grace Newsletter Reader 1 Insight From Me October 2024. Looking back at the year, people kept saying: "You handled this with such grace." The word "grace" made me uncomfortable because it suggested some kind of spiritual or emotional advantage I had. But I didn't have grace naturally. I practiced it. What people saw as grace was actually discipline. Early in the crisis, I made a framework for gratitude. It wasn't "think positive thoughts" or "find the silver lining." Those...

Grit, Gratitude, & Grace Newsletter Reader 1 Insight From Me Late October 2024. People kept asking: "Are you recovering?" And I'd say: "From what?" Not because the year didn't hurt. It did. Florena's cancer treatment was brutal. Job loss was disorienting. Financial stress was real. But recovery implies going back to where you were. And I'm not going back. The question isn't: How do I recover from 2024? The question is: How do I build on 2024? Because 2024 wasn't a detour from my real life. It...
